Young, dynamic and passionate, that is your host Álvaro Ferrandis at Hotel Märthof. Growing up in a family of lawyers in Madrid, his parents always told him that he should pursue a career in something he was passionate about. He found his inner fire is burning for gastronomy and the hospitality industry, and so he did not learn an academic profession like his parents, but first decided on his greatest passion, working in the kitchen. As a chef, he worked in a wide variety of restaurants and positions, from small regional restaurants to 3* gastronomy.
After his time in the Basque Country, he went out into the world. In addition to his homeland Spain, he visited Germany, Norway, the Caribbean and Switzerland during the course of his career, where he also completed his training as a certified hôtelier at BelvoirPark in Zurich and found the joy of being a host. His background in the kitchen accompanies him to this day and he leaves his signature behind. This can be found at Märthof, for example, in the genuine Spanish gazpacho in the restaurant Bohemia, which is regularly checked by him personally for quality and authenticity.

The Bohemia restaurant and bar and Boulevard terrace whisk you away to the exciting bohemian era, with a view of the hustle and bustle of the Marktplatz or from the bar to the lively Eisengasse. The menu ranges from a quick espresso to a delightful dinner featuring specialities from the open charcoal grill and the generous à-la-carte brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. The Bohemia's function rooms, which can be reserved separately, are decorated with murals lovingly crafted by Basel-based artist Patrizia Stalder.
Not only the brunch at the weekends is very popular with our guests - also our breakfast buffet has it all and spoils you every morning with fresh, regional delicacies and drinks. Help yourself from the buffet for breads, croissants, muesli, juices, our in-house bocafé from sustainable production, tea and more. Additionally, order your own small cheese or cold cuts platter, as well as egg dishes à-la-carte to go with it. External guests start the day with à-la-carte classics from muesli to fruit salad and savoury omelette.
